Zimbabwe Zig 2024 P Gold Backed Uncirculated With QR Code Based on information from the Bank of Zimbabwe the Zig currency is currenlty backed by 2.5 Tons of gold and 100 Million in foreign exchange reserves which are held by the Zimbabwe Central Bank. At this time, the Great American Coin Company cannot verify this information, and the Great American Coin Company makes no claims regarding the Zig being back by gold or Central Bank Reserves of any kind. As of May 2024 the Zig is considered an active international currency. This status may change at any time. Throughout the late 90's and the 2000's, inflation began to spin out of control in Zimbabwe, causing the country to issue larger and larger bank notes, culminating the trillion dollar notes minted in 2008. According to the Cato Journal, inflation reached an estimated peak of 6.5 sextillion percent in mid-November 2008, representing a complete and utter collapse of the Zimbabwe Dollar. On 24 June 2019, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe abolished the multiple currency system and replaced it with a new Zimbabwe dollar based on the RTGS Dollar.
