Description
The six color desert camouflage pattern was made famous in Operation Desert Storm where it was standard issue to all US Forces as the only specialized desert camouflage pattern in the inventory at the time. The camouflage pattern was developed in the 70’s for the Rapid Deployment Force for use in the Middle East. However, experiences during Desert Storm showed that the pattern was not optimal for the sandy deserts of Iraq due to the white flecks giving it the nickname “chocolate chip”. These flecks were added because the pattern was developed using rocky American deserts, much different than the ones found in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. This pattern was soon replaced by the 3-color desert “DCU” pattern, though some examples continued to be used into the recent War on Terror. Iraq themselves adopted the pattern after the 2003 invasion, perhaps because they were so impressed with coalition troops they faced in Desert Storm. You will receive exactly the hat shown in the pictures. It appears to have never been issued or used and is in fully working order. The hat is dated to 1990 so it was likely intended to be used in Gulf War 1. The boonie cover is in a very wearable 7-1/4 (58cm, LARGE) size.
